Limited-Stop Bus Service Comes to Popular Route Through Little Saigon With Launch of 64Xpress

February 12, 2016 Faster service will speed up weekday commutes with fewer stops along OC Bus Route 64 between Huntington Beach and Tustin ORANGE – The Orange County Transportation Authority on Monday, Feb. 15 will launch a limited-stop OC Bus service called 64Xpress to provide a faster commute along popular Route 64, which runs between the Westminster Mall area in Huntington Beach and Larwin Square in Tustin. The 64Xpress bus will run along Bolsa Avenue and First Street, through the heart of Little Saigon, with fewer stops along Route 64 to speed the commute for those riders traveling longer distances. The express route will make 16 stops in all, including near destinations such as the Westminster Mall, Asian Garden Mall, Northgate Market and the Santa Ana Artists Village. In all, the limited number of stops is expected to save riders who travel the entire route up to 19 minutes, making the 16 stops instead of the regular 48 stops. The launch of the 64Xpress service follows the recent launch of a similar service along Route 57, between Brea and Newport Beach, and the success of the popular Bravo! express bus service, which began in 2013 and offers limited stops along Harbor Boulevard. Customers have reported that they are highly satisfied with the convenience and efficiency of limited-stop service. The 64Xpress service will operate Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. It will also connect with other popular bus routes, including Bravo! Route 543 at Harbor Boulevard and 57X at Bristol Street. Buses traveling the 64Xpress route will look the same as other OC Buses, recognizable by the familiar white bus with blue and orange stripes, but will be easy to spot: Stops are clearly marked with a unique 64X sign and buses will show 64X on the digital-message sign at the front of the bus. The 64Xpress service will arrive at its stops every 30 minutes – the same frequency as the traditional Route 64, for a combined frequency of every 15 minutes at shared stops. Route 64 will continue to serve all of its stops. The cost to ride the express service is the same as regular service: $2 per boarding, or $5 for a one-day pass. Using a pass instead of cash will also speed the ride. OCTA offers a variety of passes for purchase at Ralphs, Vons, Pavilions and Northgate markets. The launch of Route 64Xpress is part of OCTA’s ongoing effort to improve bus service and increase the efficiency of bus travel throughout the county.
