The Regional English Language Office (RELO), U.S. Embassy, Vietnam, is pleased offer travel grants for outstanding English language teaching (ELT) professionals to participate in the TESOL 2016 International Convention or CamTESOL 2016 Conference. ELT professionals who are citizens of Vietnam are invited to apply for this funding opportunity. The application deadline is January 22, 2016. Grant Details Opportunity #1: TESOL 2016 International Convention Pending funding, up to three grants will be offered to selected candidates to participate in the TESOL 2016 International Convention, April 5-8, 2016, Baltimore, Maryland, USA (visit http://www.tesol.org/convention2016 for more information). The selected candidates will also have chance to participate in one TESOL pre/post-convention workshop and the U.S. Department of State sponsored networking event. Each grant will cover: – Round-trip international air ticket to the U.S. from the nearest international airport to the grantee’s residence; – Shared hotel accommodation for maximum seven nights; and – TESOL convention registration fee. The grantee may be required to pay personally for other expenses, but not limited to the following: – TESOL Global Membership fee of US$35; – Transportation costs within his/her home country; – International travel insurance (required); and – Meals and incidental expenses. Opportunity #2: CamTESOL 2016 Conference Grants will also be offered to selected candidates to participate in the CamTESOL 2016 Conference, February 20-21, 2016, Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Each grant will cover: – Transportation from the grantee’s home city to Phnom Penh; – Hotel accommodation for maximum three nights; and – Conference registration fee. The grantee will be responsible for meals, international travel insurance (required) and other associated expenses. Eligibility requirements To be considered for nomination, applicants must: 1. Be a full-time ELT professional; 2. Be a citizen of Vietnam; 3. Have at least five years of experience in the field of English language teaching; 4. Be committed to share what they learn at the conference with peers upon returning to their hometowns; 5. Not have any existing health issues that may preclude them from traveling; and 6. Not have received any U.S. government funds or participated in any U.S. government exchange opportunities within the past three years. Preference will be given to candidates who have already been selected to present at either the TESOL 2016 International Convention or CamTESOL 2016 Conference. Preference will also be given to ELT professionals linked to an in-service or pre-service professional development program at the institutional, regional, or national level. How to Apply? About the RELO Office, Hanoi, Vietnam Based at the U.S. Embassy in Hanoi, Vietnam, the Regional English Language Office (RELO) supports the professional development of English language teachers. It also partners with English language teaching institutions from the public and private sectors in order both to improve the quality of teaching and to promote mutual understanding between the host countries and the United States of America. The region includes three countries: Cambodia, Laos PDR, and Vietnam. Resources that this office can provide include materials for English language teaching, teacher professional development, and training of trainers; workshops, seminars, and online courses to enhance and improve English language teaching; and visiting academic experts and consultants from the United States who can provide assistance with development of curricula, textbooks, tests, and EFL methodology and practices.
