Announcement EducationUSA Academy 2016

SUMMARY The EducationUSA Advising Center, U.S. Embassy in Hanoi is pleased to announce that the U.S. Department of State’s EducationUSA Academy will be held at ten U.S. colleges and universities in Summer 2016, and will be open to participation by self-funded high school students from all world regions. The goal of the Academy is to create a new pipeline of better prepared international high school students by providing them with information and skills to apply to, and be successful as undergraduates at, U.S. higher education institutions. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION The EducationUSA Academy is a three-to-four-week summer program held on ten college and university campuses for 15- to 17-year-old students who are non-native English speaking foreign nationals and reside outside of the United States. Diablo Valley College (CA), Lewis and Clark College (OR), Northwestern University (IL), Syracuse University (NY), Temple University (PA), University of Arkansas, University of Colorado Boulder, University of Hawai’i at Mānoa, University of North Georgia, and Washington University in St. Louis (MO) were selected through a competition to each host between 20-40 students who will study intensive English, learn about the process of applying to U.S. higher education institutions, explore strategies for success in a U.S. academic environment, and experience U.S. campus life. The program will also include tours of diverse college and university campuses in the vicinity of the host institution. Two levels of English will be offered: Intermediate and Advanced. Each host institution will determine its own English language assessment process, application process, and application deadline. Most students will apply directly to the institution of their choice and pay their own program and travel costs. The program cost per student will be between $4,000 and $6,000, which will include tuition, books and materials, room and board, health insurance, and cultural activities (including campus tours). Airfare and visa fees will not be included. Interested students should visit http://www.edusaacademy.org for more information about each Academy and host institution, applicable fees, application procedures, and deadlines. From this site, students will be directed to each host campus website and instructed to follow that institution’s application process.
