June 9, 2015 *** REVISED The Vietnamese American Leadership Summit (VALS) is pleased to announce that we will award 70 scholarship tickets to the next generation Vietnamese American leaders from the Virginia, Maryland, DC and surrounding areas to attend the Vietnamese American Leadership Summit on June 19 & 20 in Washington, D.C. This is a first come first serve opportunity. The scholarship will be open to cover the cost of VALS registration for eligible applicants. The value of the scholarship award will be up to $100 USD. Applicants will NOT be required to pay for the 2015 VALS in advance. The VALS team will work to register each qualified recipients on or before June 15th, 2015 to avoid incurring cost to the recipients. The mission of the VALS is to engage leaders in open dialogues about critical issues facing the Vietnamese American community, develop a pipeline of effective leadership and shared strategies, and work collaboratively to advance the Vietnamese American community politically, economically, and socially. This is a great opportunity for young, aspiring leaders to learn from and discuss many important topics with their counterparts, community and business leaders from around the country, as well as well-known Vietnamese American leaders such as Professor Dinh Viet, former U.S. Assistant General Attorney, former Congressman Anh Joseph Cao, County Commissioner Andy Nguyen, Councilman Chris Phan, Mayor Pro Tem Hang Tran, Congressman Christopher Smith, Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren and 2015 VALS keynote speaker, Norman Y Mineta, former US Secretary of Transportation, Congressman & the recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom to name a few. To be eligible for the VALS-sponsored Scholarship Grant, candidates must: 1. Be Vietnamese American, age 18-30. 2. Reside in North America. 3. Have demonstrated strong commitment to public service, community service, and leadership. Recipients of the VALS sponsored Scholarship Grant are selected on the basis of exemplary character, and great potential for leadership.
